For holidaymakers planning a cruise to Bermuda, the country has just undergone an exciting development. Traditionally, cruise ships coming into port in Bermuda had to close their casinos for the duration of their stay. Luckily, the problem has been resolved. Ships are now allowed to operate on-board casinos between 9 pm and 5 am. These onboard casinos are not open to locals or non-cruise visitors to the country. In fact, gambling remains illegal everywhere else on the island.
For anyone wishing to travel to Bermuda and have a good time playing poker or blackjack, a cruise ship holiday is a great opportunity. Cruise ships tend to spend a few nights in port in Bermuda, and this is because of its isolation from any other landmass.
What happened though, is that the cruise ships had to close down their casinos for every one of those days in port in Bermuda, until they reached international waters again. Now that Bermuda has made a change, we should see more ships wanting to come to our island paradise — that is just our opinion of course, but it only makes sense.
Everyone wins here. Start planning your cruise to Bermuda with Thinking of Bermuda. The cruise season is set to be more action-packed than ever. Visitors have a wide variety of attractions to choose from. My parents agreed about it being too cold in some locations and we heard a few other passengers make the same comment.
We attended several shows in the Bliss Lounge. It is very nice but too small for several of the shows that were hosted there. It was standing room only for the Thursday night shows. We would have preferred that the casino be non-smoking. I am happy to tell you that none of these three items will prevent us from booking another cruise with NCL or specifically on the Norwegian Dawn.
The next time we plan a cruise vacation NCL will be the very first place we look. We will definitely recommend NCL to all of our friends and family. We had an inside cabin which was cozy and just big enough who wants to spend time in the cabin with so much great stuff to do on board! The beds are comfortable and the amenities were just right. Like most places in Boston a little bit crowded but not unbearable. Find a Cruise.
We thought about what we would change. There are only a few. What a great vacation!! Read more Norwegian Dawn Reviews. Erik's Full Rating Summary. Sign Up for Price Drop Alerts. Cabin Review Mid-Ship Inside. View All Boston Reviews.

Embarkation- Not really a problem. The setting in NYC is rather gloomy- you step into a building resembling a large aircraft hanger, which is typical of the facilities used by cruise lines. The staff charged with "greeting" new passengers was a mix of happy and less than ambitious folks. Arriving at we were onboard by check-in was a breeze. Public Space- The Dawn is very easy on the eyes. The common areas, including the atrium and pools, are well appointed.
The ship doesn't really show any wear and tear in these areas. As it relates to the main pool deck, be reminded that since this ship is on the "smaller" side of the megaships, deck space is at a premium, regardless of whether you desire a deck chair in the sun or table and chair in the shade. The "chair hogs" were out in full force, especially on the days at sea. I've mentioned the main pool, and the ship also offers a "kiddie" pool. There is no elevator access and the only other means is to cut through the gym aerobics studio- one of the trainers even remarked as to "how stupid of a setup" it was.
Walking too fast? Raising your voice? At one point, there were whistles every other minute, and their routine grew tired quickly. Upkeep on the pool deck is big for me, as we tend to spend a lot of time outside. One thing I noticed on NCL as opposed to Celebrity is that their deck personnel are less than motivated. In my eyes, if you as an employee pass an empty glass, pick it up, it's that simple.
The same goes for towels which are not being used, such as those rolled up into balls and laying on the deck. It was myself, my wife and our 10 month old in the cabin. The cabin was well appointed in layout and amenities. The balcony was a nice size, enough for 2 deck chairs and a small table.
The cabin was also appointed with a pull-out chair which doubled as sleeping for the 3rd person, but we of course opted to bring out own pack-n-play along for our son to sleep in. For those parents in a similar setup, don't rely upon the cruise line to supply the crib or pack-n-play if it can be avoided- from what I saw of the pieces in the hallway BEFORE they were set up, they are old and dirty- not what you would want your child sleeping in by any means.
Stateroom attendants were courteous and responsive, but did not go over the top. One thing which struck me as odd was prior to the lifeboat drill, I approached our steward and requested a lifejacket for my son. He told me that he would bring it to the cabin later in the evening. Now, wouldn't it make more sense for the jacket to be provided to you in advance of the drill, so as to ensure full compliance? No towel animals I don't care one way or the other but I know that it's a big deal to some of you.
The room was turned over promptly by the Steward, made even easier with the "wheel" outside your room, whereby you could select "do not disturb," "turn down bed," and "make up cabin. Storage was ample, with plenty of room in the closet for 2 large suitcases and clothes hanging above, coupled with additional space in the adjacent shelves and drawers. Central air control is a nice touch. Shower was roomy enough for me, though the toilet is somewhat claustrophobic- but what can you expect- on a cruise you know what kind of bathroom you will end up with so there aren't any surprises.
Sheet quality- poor, very pilly and felt as if they had been washed since the ship first took to the water. Upgrading the linens more than once every 4 or 5 years may been in order. Dining- Ah the important category for many of us. We did not partake in room service, so I don't have a comment for you there. Breakfast buffet- good. There's also a hot tub There's also a hot tub on the deck nearby. A hip place for teens to hang out comes complete, video, jukebox, football table and air hockey.

Our Safety, Security, Health and Environmental Protection policy establishes our commitment to conduct our operations safely, securely and with sensitivity to the environment around us. Preserving our oceans and protecting our environment is one of our core company values that we strive to meet through our daily goals:. Across our fleet, we have implemented many of the most innovative environmental policies and technologies in the cruise industry.
This achievement recognises that we utilise a core set of standards for an effective environmental management system that reduces our environmental impact and increases our operating efficiency. Onboard our vessels, water is primarily used by our guests and crew in their staterooms for showers, bathtubs and sinks but Onboard our vessels, water is primarily used by our guests and crew in their staterooms for showers, bathtubs and sinks but is also used for galleys, laundry, pools, whirlpools, spas and cleaning public spaces.
We have focused our efforts on increasing water production on board with sophisticated plants that use seawater as the source, which reduces the need for the bunkering of fresh water. This is particularly important in countries where fresh water is limited and best reserved for local communities.
Wastewater is run through these systems and treated prior to discharge, resulting in effluent that meets or exceeds international regulations and many municipal wastewater facility standards. Our newest ships are equipped with the leading AWP technology that meets the stringent Baltic Standards.
Every ship's wastewater is tested quarterly by a third-party, and our environmental officers also conduct weekly water quality tests to ensure we continue to meet all standards. Wastewater collected in machinery and engine spaces is known as bilge water. Collected bilge water is held in storage tanks and can only be discharged after meeting international, national and company regulations. To ensure compliance, all ships are equipped with an automatic stopping device and an oil content metre, which work to confirm the ship's compliance.
This equipment will analyze and record the oil content of the bilge. If the bilge water does not meet these requirements, discharging is automatically stopped and the bilge water is recirculated until these standards are met. The remaining bilge water that cannot be discharged is collected and landed ashore to an approved vendor.
To operate safely and comfortably, ships perform an operation known as ballasting, which helps to ensure trim, stability and structural integrity. Filling ballast tanks with ocean water helps stabilise ships, providing comfort to guests and crew. As water is discharged or as fuel is consumed, ships take on seawater to assist with stabilisation. During this operation, some species are able to "hitch a ride" on ships and transfer to many areas of the world, including areas where they are non-native or invasive.
Treating ballast water before release removes tiny organisms that may have been picked up in transit in order to safeguard local ecosystems. Our ships call on sensitive areas of the world, and we strive to lead by example as we strive to continue to Norwegian enforces a zero-tolerance policy for any items thrown overboard.
If an environmental incident is observed, guests, crew and shoreside employees are encouraged to use our environmental hotline. Proper implementation of a progressive waste management programme lessens the environmental impact of our operations, reduces pollution, promotes diversion of material from landfills, conserves natural resources, saves energy and lowers ship fuel use.
Waste is reduced through reusing and recycling, with clear benchmarks serving as our measurement for waste minimisation. Over the past decade, as the availability of recycling programmes and options has increased, we have taken advantage of these programmes wherever possible. One example is when Norwegian partnered with Waste Management in to develop an industry-first Live Load offload operation. This partnership reduces offload time of waste, truck on-site time, port congestion, transportation costs and the use of pier-side containers.
Our ships that used the Live Load model in were able to conserve the following:. Climate change is one of the defining issues of our time. How governments, organisations and individuals choose to respond to it will How governments, organisations and individuals choose to respond to it will have lasting effects for not only our lifetime, but future generations.
Knowing this, we believe it is our obligation as leaders in the cruise industry to do our part and help mitigate actions that may influence changes to our climate on a large scale. We are always focused on continuous improvement and are ready to explore new opportunities as our fleet grows. This technology reduces the amount of sulfur oxide and particulate matter emitted from the ship by cleaning, or scrubbing, the emissions before being released from the stack.
Ships equipped with this technology are able to reduce SOx emissions by up to 99 percent. Whilst in port, our cruise ships continue to generate their own power, providing heat, air conditioning, lighting and hot water for guests and crew, similar to a hotel.
A small number of ports around the world have installed infrastructure for cruise ships to connect to the onshore electrical power grid to supply much of the power needed when the ship is docked. This is known as Cold-Ironing, which can reduce emissions from a ship whilst docked. Data is collected from all our ships to track the largest energy consumers on board and to assist in establishing Key Performance Indicators to identify where energy efficiency improvements can be made.
Our goal is to focus on the large energy consumers and explore solutions to optimise operations and lower consumption. During Norwegian Jewel and Norwegian Star's refurbishments the lighting instruments in all onboard guest entertainment areas were upgraded to more energy-efficient LEDs. This change resulted in a lower heat output, lower power usage and a longer bulb life. This process works by recovering heat from the engines and transferring it to freshwater piping, which allows us to utilise a free source of energy for improving water production and saving fuel.

When we docked in Roatan we were informed the casino was open all day. I played several hours in the morning and about noon officials came on the ship and shut the casino down. No other info was available. Some people had been informed before the cruise the casino would be open in port.
Maybe in the future? We were on the 9 nite Navigator also. March 16th sailing on the Symphony, the compass listed the slots opening at 2pm, in St. I thought.. Sure enough, the casino opened at 2pm. I've been to Aruba and Curacao multiple times. The casino was never open while in port. However, Aruba has loads of casinos - take the city bus to the Ritz-Carlton I've had great luck there and free drinks while playing , then walk down the beach and hit all of them.
In Curacao, there's a casino before going across the moving bridge. All pay out in US currency. The casino would open at hours or 9PM. It stays open until hours or 2 AM. Don't know which cruise lines purchase that licence. Was able to play on Celebrity Cruise Line. NCL casino is open from 9pm till 5am in Bermuda. Especially since the second schedule appears to be per visit based on the much lower numbers.

I'll be on a Carnival cruise that docks there overnight. EZ1 Posted March 27, Posted March 27, LaCal Posted March 29, Posted March 29, Grand Turk it stays open on Carnival. The buffets had the usual stuff. Breakfasts were good if u had the fresh eggs and waffles. I usually went for the lighter fair such as cereal, yogurt and fruit. You cant go wrong, they have everything. Lunches were just ok. The hot food was usually pretty bland, once in a while they had a nice chicken dish.
Desserts and cookies were good. You cant go wrong with a burger, fries or a sandwich. The outdoor BBQ's were very good. They had things like chicken, fried rice and pasta. Very tasty. Service varied, they were unbelievably awesome in the blue lagoon, very hard working staff. The dining rooms were spotty, just depends who you get. The main dining rooms were always very good. I liked Aqua the best. I found it to be the best service wise and also the quickest. If you are looking for a more intimate but still something free, go to impressions.
It is a bit more elegant. The Venetian was ok, somewhat noisy and more crowded. We only ate at one specialty restaurant and that was Cagney's. It was nice, not sure if id pay the 20 bucks again. The steak was excellent but you can also get a nice steak every night in any dining room for free. I suggest to make reservations for La trattoria and Salsa right away because these are free especially restaurants and fill up immediately. You can always get a table at Cagney's, le bistro or Bamboo the 3rd or 4th day into the cruise.
The Blue lagoon rocked. There was nothing better than going dancing and drinking and then making a pit stop at about 3am at the Blue lagoon for such things as lo mein, burgers, chili, fries, potato skins, fried rice, salad, wonton soup, chicken fingers and fish and chips. Really tasty food! The cabin is a just that. Small but functional, there were three of us in there and I have no complaints.
The activities were just average. There wasn't really much to do besides sit by the pool on sea days. You could gamble maybe but I don't recommend it lol. They did have a few activities such as bingo and a few other classes and seminars which were ok. The gym is very nice and we went there occasionally on sea days.
The lap pool is nice but not worth 15 bucks a day.

We will never ride the bus again. But we liked what we did see and unlike Nassau or Belize, we want to go back for a more complete visit to Bermuda.
It seems to be a very friendly and safe destination. All areas are well kept and inviting. Embarkation in Boston was very easy. Getting off was not. They seemed to call too many groups at the same time which resulted in long lines. We drove, and the process of getting the car and picking up your luggage was poor. Took about an hour and a half total time. Some folks dragged their luggage to the parking garage about a block away, but then had to wait for an elevator to get to level 4 where cruise customers park.
There was a small area outside the garage to wait, so one person can wait with the luggage while another retrieves the car. Cabin Full bathtub and toilet stall has sliding partition for privacy. Balconies in this aft area have sloping partitions and allow you to look into next balcony if you stand at the rail. Not a problem for us, but beware.
One could actually access the next balcony by squeezing between partition and rail. Keep your patio door locked. Cafe is above, but noise was not disturbing. Otherwise a quiet area. Convenient to rear elevators and Venetian Restaurant, Garden Cafe.
