It turns out that GEICO has commercials with talking pigs, men made of money, talking lizards, bodybuilders directing traffic, and a fake Robert Stack for no good reason. That company is horrible and so is everything else. So now it's time for rationalization.
Thinking everything is bullshit This is typically the first stage you go through, and it lasts for a while. Ryan Ludwick is apparently Jose Bautista now, and that's bullshit. Brandon Phillips is Joe Morgan, which is also bullshit. The Giants got two hits, which is … look, remember the Giants? I like to refer to them as some kind of boogyman. They had two games that entire season with two hits. And, hell, one of the times, they won. So the Giants getting two hits in a playoff game against a dooky-flopping flim-tosser is kind of bullshit.
This is because I hate myself and the choices I've made. Blaming someone who probably didn't make that much of a difference So it turns out that Guilermo Mota isn't good. He's responsible for all this, I'm sure. Start thinking about how the Giants can sweep a three-game series in Cincinnati. Now we get to dream. That is, what would appear on the front page of the New York Times sports section? Astros win 20 straight? That'd be on there. How about the A's winning 20 straight in ? Probably, yeah.
What about the A's winning three at home against Texas during the last week of the season, following a second-half surge for the ages? Hmmm, maybe, but I didn't check. How about the Giants going into Los Angeles in late August and sweeping a series? No, no, that's not something that'd be on the front page of the sports page of the New York Times. That's just one of the things that happens in baseball. It's not likely, but it can happen.
Like it did this August. It's not something that happens every season -- no, it's more of one of those things that elicits a piece of trivia. Did you know the Giants hadn't swept a series in Los Angeles since ? That's how rare and unlikely it is. But it happened again this year. And when it happened, it merited a "Wow.
Wasn't expecting that. Super neat! And that's where the Giants are right now. They probably aren't going to advance to the NLCS. But, heck, they could sweep a three-game series on the road. It's still baseball. Do you have a sports website? Or write about sports? We have tools and resources that can help you use sports data. Find out more. San Francisco Giants Batting.
But not to Bronson Arroyo. He comes out of the game. It was potentially a killer blow, losing your ace that quickly, but the way the Reds improvised and prevailed gave them great confidence. Latos went four innings and only allowed a solo home run to Posey. Jay Bruce hit a solo shot in the fourth. It was by the time the bullpen took over. We salvaged Game 1 when for all intents and purposes it looked like it would go to the Giants.
He went seven innings and allowed one hit. He struck out four and walked one. I had good stuff. I had good, crisp stuff. I commanded everything. Standing on that big of a stage with catcher Ryan Hanigan, one my best friends on the club, the battery holding it down like that. It was fantastic. When the Reds got back to town, Arroyo put on a show at the Holy Grail. Some Giant fans were giving him a hard time. Homer Bailey was as dominant as Arroyo.
He went seven innings, allowed one run on one hit. He walked one and struck out The Reds, meanwhile, had Giants starter Ryan Vogelsong on the ropes in the first. Brandon Phillips led off with a single. He stole second, but he tried to go to third on the play and Posey threw him out for the first out. Zack Cozart walked next. Vogelsong threw 35 pitches in the inning. He might not have escaped the inning without the gift out.
He hit a batter and walked another to start the inning. The Giants sacrificed the runners over. Angel Pagan tied it with a sacrifice fly. Vogelsong settled down and gave the Giants five innings. The Reds could do nothing against the bullpen. The Giants took the lead in the 10th. Reliever Jonathan Broxton gave up back-to-back singles to Posey and Hunter Pence to start the inning. Then Scott Rolen, an eight-time Gold Glover, booted a ball.
Posey scored. The Reds decide to go with Mike Leake instead. He was left off the roster for the series. He said he felt pretty good. They took him off the roster and put Leake in there. A lot of heads were in meetings all coming together and talking about it. There was a lot swirling around in that heat. Leake kept the Reds in it until the fifth. He gave up two runs in the inning to make Jose Arredondo gave up three more in the seventh. The Reds ended up losing The series was tied.
Gregor Blanco led off the fifth with a single. Brandon Crawford followed with a triple. That made it Latos lost his composure a bit. He walked Marco Scutaro on four pitches. Pablo Sandoval singled to load the bases.
I just fell down in kind of a crouch. Watching that ball travel into the seats kind of rips your heart out. Not quite. Phillips doubled in two runs in the bottom of the inning. Ludwick hit a solo shot in the sixth. Bruce followed with a walk. Rolen singled. With count and Hanigan at the plate, Baker started the runners. Hanigan took a called third strike, and Bruce was thrown out at third.
The ball looked to be outside. The call goes the other way and the Reds have the bases loaded with one out. As it was, they had a runner at second and two out. Rally over. Cozart walked with one out. Votto followed with a single. Ludwick singled to get Cozart home and bring the winning run to the plate.
The crescendo was building in the crowd. The fans were starting to anticipate a storybook ending. Votto sensed it. Jay Bruce walks back to the dugout after flying out in the ninth inning with men on base in Game Five.

After a walk to Scutaro, Sandoval singled to load the bases. Buster Posey then crushed a 2—2 pitch from Latos off the facing of the second deck for a grand slam and a 6—0 lead. The Reds slowly chipped away the lead. In the bottom of the fifth, a hit-by-pitch and single was followed by Brandon Phillips 's two-run double.
Next inning, Ryan Ludwick 's leadoff home run made it 6—3. In the ninth, a one-out walk and single was followed by Ludwik's RBI single. The Reds brought the tying run to the plate in the sixth, seventh, and eighth innings, and the winning run to the plate in the ninth inning. With two men on and the Giants clinging to a two-run lead, Sergio Romo retired Jay Bruce on a harmless fly ball to left after a pitch duel.
Romo then settled down and struck out Scott Rolen to give the Giants the victory. The Phillies would bring the tying run to the plate in the form of St. Louis native Ryan Howard later in the inning, but Marc Rzepczynski struck out Howard to escape the jam. The Brewers scored first in the 4th when Braun scored on a Jerry Hariston sacrifice fly, and then scored again in the 6th when Yuniesky Betancourt tripled and was then driven in by a single by Jonathan Lucroy.
In the 7th inning, with two outs, Braun doubled for the Brewers, with Prince Fielder coming up. Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson went to talk to Kennedy and allowed Kennedy to pitch to Fielder with first base open. The same thing happened for Fielder, who hit the second pitch he saw from Kennedy out for a 2-run homer, giving the Brewers a comfortable 4—0 lead. Ryan Roberts broke up Gallardo's shutout with a home run in the 8th, but Brewers closer John Axford finished off the Diamondbacks in the 9th, giving the Brewers the 4—1 win and the first win of the series.

Putz pitched the eighth and the ninth each to seal the win. But the D-backs fought back in the bottom half on Ryan Roberts ' grand slam and Chris Young 's solo homer.
The D-backs answered with Collin Cowgill 's two-run single in the bottom of the third. Both starters were ineffective as each pitched only three innings, but the two homers allowed by Randy Wolf made the most difference, putting the Brewers into an early 7—3 hole. But the D-backs also scored three more runs on Aaron Hill 's solo home run in the sixth and Young's two-run homer, his second of the night, in the seventh. Closer J.
